Intermediate Classes

Five Intermediate Taekwondo classes are included per week, plus 5 hours of open studio time and 3 cardiokickboxing classes. Please see our complete schedule for times and days. The classes offered are described here:

Core classes - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:30-9:00 pm. These classes are the main Intermediate classes, and are intended to teach a broad range of Taekwondo skills, including kicking, forms, sparring and basic boxing techniques. Intermediate students should make these two classes their first priority, as they cover all skills necessary for promotion to the next rank.

Requirements class - Mondays, 8:30-9:45 pm. This class puts a strong emphasis on forms and curriculum review, although other drills may be covered. It is a good chance to reinforce your curriculum knowledge, or shore up some areas that need work.

Sparring Class - Saturdays, 1:00pm-2:30 pm. This is the primary class for learning and practicing Olympic-style sparring. While other classes may cover this, this class focuses on building technique, strength and endurance for sparring, and also of course gives students the opportunity to spar with each other under supervised situations.

Sparring skills class - Wednesdays, 8:30-9:30 pm. This class is intended to teach the basics of sparring, and introduce drills intended to prepare people for Olympic-style sparring. It is especially recommended for people new to the intermediate program, but is open to everyone.

Open Workouts - Mondays 9:45-10:30 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00-10:30 pm, Wednesdays 9:30-10:30 pm. Open studio time and the chance to work with your classmates on your own is an integral part of the C.W. Taekwondo experience. As such, we currently offer 5 hours of open workout time per week, and students are expected to take advantage of this open studio time.

Cardiokickboxing - Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm and Fridays 6:00-7:00pm. A great way to cross train for Taekwondo, it combines Taekwondo and boxing techniques with high-energy music to create a fun aerobic workout.

Space permitting, students are encouraged to attend as many classes of their particular difficulty (beginner, intermediate, etc.) per week as possible.

Where do I fit?

Many students who are new to the intermediate program may be intimidated by the longer class time or the slightly larger class size compared to the beginner course. While we expect you to find the classes challenging (and fun!), we believe that you'll ultimately benefit from the increased aerobic level of classes, and have a lot of fun learning new techniques and drills. Also, the larger class size means that you'll have a wider variety of workout partners, and the opportunity to look at more advanced members' techniques and see what lies ahead for you on your Taekwondo journey.

Of course, if you have any concerns at all regarding classes, please speak to your instructor and they would be happy to talk to you.
